Nottingham Forest have stepped up their efforts to sign Celta Vigo’s Javi Rueda, after recently identifying him as a target.

Nottingham Forest are ready to ‘more than double’ his current salary to tempt him.
Last week, AS said he has a €30m clause in his contract that runs down in 2029. Rueda’s former club, Real Madrid, retain 50% of his rights and will benefit from his summer move.
Nottingham Forest make advances
Oliver Glasner’s side are in the market for a new right-back and have been working on signing Fiorentina’s Dodô. The two clubs haven’t found an agreement yet for the Brazilian.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest are making advances to sign Javi Rueda. DAZN in Spain reported this and Faro de Vigo, a newspaper local to the La Liga side, backs it up and shares more updates.
The English club have launched a significant attempt in recent days to secure the 24-year-old’s services this summer. The latter is now ‘one step away’ from making a switch to the City Ground.
Faro de Vigo state the fullback’s release clause is €40m, while an earlier report said it’s €30m.
Either way, the Premier League side are paying a ‘fee considerably lower’ than his clause. The price is between €15m and €20m, and Celta Vigo have to give 50% of the fee to José Mourinho’s side.
Nottingham Forest sorting out details
Celta Vigo’s desire has been to keep the Spaniard, and the expectation was for him to step up after Óscar Mingueza’s departure.
That won’t happen now because he has given his approval to the Reds. The move will see him significantly improve his salary, without a mention of any figures.
Although Faro de Vigo states Javi Rueda is a step away from Nottingham Forest, the two clubs still have to iron out details of the operation.
