Crystal Palace have been in the picture to sign Youssouf Fofana and Brighton are also interested. The two clubs could be handed a favourable path to the move.
Sport Witness have regularly covered developments around the Frenchman. While Ruben Amorim used him early during Milan’s pre-season, he has now been excluded from the club’s project. He didn’t feature in the Serie A opener against Torino and has only been training separately.
Even then, the Eagles had made initial contact for a move. Milan’s valuation for the player stood at around €20m at that point.
Now, Brighton are also in the race and there are more developments.
Milan’s desperation clear
Today’s TuttoSport looks at all the possible outgoings from the Rossoneri. This is quite important to Milan, who have only made significant signings and are yet to sell anyone. This is a new approach but now, they are desperate to make room for more players.
Fofana – like Fikayo Tomori, is a major candidate to depart. While the Englishman won’t mind staying at Milan if no offers arrive, the opposite is true for Fofana. He has removed any mentions of the club from social media and is actively seeking a transfer.
So far, Crystal Palace and Brighton have made initial moves but the deal is only in the early stages.
This is making Milan consider the idea of making a deal easier. So far, they’ve only considered a permanent sale. Now, they can also evaluate initial loan moves, even if they offer only an option to buy.
The Rossoneri feel they are running out of time and are willing to execute a favourable exit for Crystal Palace and Brighton.
Our take: Loan deal makes sense
Fofana struggled for Milan in the 2025/26 campaign. The 27-year-old struggled from a defensive point of view and it became clear that he is better going forward.
The player represents a tactical dilemma and that is why an initial loan would make sense for Brighton and Crystal Palace. Fofana has previously played regularly in the Champions League and if things go right, they could even sign him for a cheap figure.
