Nottingham Forest have identified Celta Vigo’s Javi Rueda as a new right-back target this summer.
The Premier League side want to strengthen that position and are already working on signing Fiorentina’s Dodô.
On Thursday, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy that Nottingham Forest have agreed to pay €10m plus bonuses to La Viola. The agreement with Dodô is missing and the parties are negotiating his salary.
New target for Nottingham Forest
There’s a possibility the negotiations with Dodô are being difficult, resulting in the Reds identifying a new target.
Radio Galega journalist Víctor López, who focuses his coverage on Celta Vigo, covers the Nottingham Forest interest.
He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report Oliver Glasner’s side want Javi Rueda.
The Spaniard is happy with the La Liga side. In order to convince him to change his mind, the English club are ready to offer him a salary ‘more than double’ what he currently receives.
López makes no mention of any figures, or whether the player is willing to accept a move.
Second source backs Nottingham Forest interest
AS are also backing up of the City Ground club’s interest in the 24-year-old.
Celta Vigo initially signed him for their academy from Real Madrid in 2023. A year later, Javi Rueda made his first team debut and spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Albacete Balompié.
Since returning to Celta Vigo, he played 38 matches last season, managing four goals and seven assists.
Last November, the defender signed a new contract until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €6m. The newspaper states it includes a €30m release clause.
The clause provides Nottingham Forest an easy route to sign the player, without holding negotiations with Celta Vigo, as long as Javi Rueda wants to join them. The English club have to wait for his final decision.
Real Madrid own 50% of his rights and will benefit from his sale in this window.
