Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Liverpool‘s Cody Gakpo and have been working on this operation for several weeks.
On August 14th, Sport Witness covered claims from the Dutch press of Spurs offering over €69m. The forward has reached an agreement in principle with Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
Liverpool have been considering Tottenham’s offer and haven’t given a definite answer yet. Earlier this week, we relayed news the north London club want to complete his signing quickly.
Tottenham not making progress

Journalist Rik Elfrink took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to discuss Spurs’ interest in the Netherlands international.
He states: ‘Cody Gakpo is at a crossroads in his career: Tottenham is eyeing the attacker, but Liverpool is hesitant.’
Elfrink shares more updates about this case for Algemeen Dagblad, relayed by Voetbal Primeur.
As things stand, the 27-year-old’s future remains uncertain amid the Premier League side’s desire to secure his services.
Why Liverpool are hesitating
Cody Gakpo has held talks with Roberto De Zerbi’s side and is keen on joining them this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur have already submitted an offer and haven’t heard from Liverpool so far.
Andoni Iraola’s side are currently working on strengthening their attack and focusing on a few targets.
The Reds are keen on Paris Saint-Germain duo of Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye. On Thursday, the UK press reported Brighton & Hove Albion rejecting Liverpool’s €58m bid for Yankuba Minteh.
The outlet states: ‘Gakpo still hasn’t received complete clarity about his future. Liverpool are still working on incoming transfers, which could significantly influence the Dutchman’s future with the club.’
Earlier this month, Gakpo impressed in a friendly win over Como. He opened the scoring and assisted Jérémy Jacquet’s goal.
His impressive performance in this fixture has made Liverpool’s decision makers wobble.
The saga is likely to drag on until the last days of the window.
