Wolves have now moved forward in their pursuit of Brayan Medina, with talks underway to sign the Tondela defender.
That takes the story a step beyond the interest reported last week. Pipe Sierra had named Wolves, Birmingham City and Southampton as English clubs keeping an eye on the Colombian.
Portuguese newspaper Record now says Wolves are negotiating with Tondela. Bola na Rede have also picked up the development and say César Peixoto wants Medina in his squad.
Wolves move into negotiations for Medina
The 24-year-old missed Tondela’s latest match against Académica de Viseu, although he continues to train normally with the Portuguese club.
There’s no suggestion his absence was directly linked to the negotiations. Still, it is worth noting with his future now being discussed.
Genoa are also keeping an eye on Medina, giving Wolves competition from Serie A.
There’s no mention this time of Birmingham City or Southampton making similar progress. Last week’s information simply had all three English clubs interested and open to late-window moves. Wolves now appear to have taken things further.
No asking price or potential offer is mentioned at this stage. Tondela do, however, have a reasonably significant investment to protect. They paid €2.5m (£2.2m) to sign Medina in the summer of 2025.
Peixoto wants another defensive option
Medina went on to make 27 appearances last season and stood out despite Tondela suffering relegation. His profile also makes the Wolves interest easy enough to understand.
The Colombian is around 1.95m tall and naturally left-footed. He’s particularly strong in physical and aerial battles, while also being comfortable playing out from defence.
Those characteristics attracted several English clubs in the first place. Wolves now seem to be the ones actually trying to turn that interest into a deal.
The next question is whether they can find an agreement with Tondela before the window closes.
With negotiations already underway and Peixoto said to want Medina, this has moved beyond another name sitting on Wolves’ defensive shortlist.
