West Ham United‘s Edson Álvarez is likely to leave the Championship side before the window closes next Tuesday. 

The Mexico international returned to West Ham after a loan spell at Fenerbahçe last season.

Since returning to London, there’s been uncertainty around his future, especially after West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League.

The midfielder played 75 minutes in the EFL Cup win over Portsmouth earlier this month. Since then, Nuno Espírito Santo has left him out of the squad for the two Championship matches.

Last month, we relayed news Ajax were fighting with Real Sociedad for the midfielder. Recently, the Spanish media backed him to join La Real on loan.

Claro Sports in Mexico looks at his chances of moving to the La Liga side, after covering the fresh development. The Greek media are reporting on Olympiacos’ desire to sign the 28-year-old.

At the weekend, Olympiacos completed the signing of Edson Álvarez’s Mexico teammate, Armando González, from Chivas de Guadalajara.

The latter’s father, Luis Armando González, spoke to Claro Sports to reveal the Greek club have a concrete interest in the West Ham United man.

“I asked someone at the club, and they told me that the interest is real, they are looking at him, but that’s all,” he said.

Edson Álvarez has a contract until 2028, and the Hammers are prioritising a sale.

The Spanish club want to sign the former Ajax man on loan. Besides the midfield, La Real are also working on signing players for other positions.

The difference in the transfer formula means Edson Álvarez to Real Sociedad is ‘slipping away’.

This will allow Olympiacos to make progress in their negotiations with the Championship side. Claro Sports have no further updates on the chances of the West Ham United player ending up in Greece.
