Aston Villa fans hoping to travel to Sevilla in this international break for the friendly clash with the Spanish side can now purchase their tickets for the game.
Sevilla’s official website reports that tickets have now gone on sale for the Antonio Puerta Trophy. The game will be played next Friday, October 2nd, at 8:30pm at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.
Tickets will range from range from €10 in the North and South stands (Gol Norte and Gol Sur) to €15 in the Fondo stand and €20 in the Preferencia stand.
Sevilla taking it seriously
Sevilla are likely to field a strong team for the game, with Vamos Mi Sevilla reporting that the Spanish club’s medical staff see the game as vital.
They’re using the 22-day international break they’re now on as a ‘key opportunity’. They want to get players fit and firing for the upcoming calendar.
They have already ‘ramped up the intensity’ ahead of the clash with Aston Villa, despite six players being away on international duty. That’s left them with only ten first-team players.
Attention is on the treatment room to maximise the options. Three key players – Kike Salas, Rubén Vargas and Lucas Stassin – are all expected to return in the coming days and weeks. Whether they’re fit for Aston Villa, remains to be seen. But that game could prove crucial in giving them necessary minutes in their recoveries.
Despite the list of absences, the coaching staff are maintaining the group’s intensity with those available. Again, the clash with Aston Villa will be key for that.
They see the ‘demanding test’ against Unai Emery’s side as an ideal opportunity to give playing time to squad members who feature less frequently and to assess those returning from injury.
Why it’s important
For those that don’t know, the Antonio Puerta trophy is a very big, and important deal in Seville. It is held annually to honour the memory of former Sevilla player Antonio Puerta.
Puerta, a left-back and midfielder, spent his entire professional career with Sevilla. He also scored the goal that secured their first ever European trophy – the UEFA Cup – in 2006.
He tragically passed away at just 22-years-old. Puerta collapsed on the pitch during a La Liga match against Getafe after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Sevilla have honoured him since. They retired the number 16 shirt in his honour and hold the annual Antonio Puerta trophy to honour his memory.
Now Aston Villa are the latest high-profile opponents chosen. The game also marks Unai Emery’s first return to his former club. Coupled with the seriousness with which Sevilla are taking it in terms of fitness too, it should prove to be a game worth attention.
