West Ham United‘s Adama Boiro hasn’t had a good start with the Championship side because of an injury issue.
The left-back joined Athletic Bilbao from CA Osasuna in 2024 and was initially part of their reserve team. He made his first team debut for the Basque club later that year and played 45 matches.
In August, the 24-year-old came off the bench in Athletic’s league defeat to Barcelona in because of Johaneko Louis-Jean’s injury. A few days later, he completed a loan move to West Ham, who have secured a purchase option.
Difficult start to West Ham spell
The Dakar-born fullback made his Hammers debut in their 2-0 win over Derby County on September 5th.
Since then, he hasn’t featured for West Ham United, and Nuno Espírito Santo left him out of the squad for the last two Championship matches.
This led to suggestions in the British media that the manager doesn’t favour Adama Boiro, and Deia, after relaying this, wastes no time to dismiss the English clubs.
The newspaper makes it clear it’s their own information and reports that the defender arrived at the international break with a ‘minor injury’. This prevented him from playing for the London club in recent weeks.

Snubbed several clubs for West Ham
Towards the end of the window, he looked for a club after falling down the pecking order at Athletic.
This saw the fullback attract interest from several clubs. He snubbed them in favour of the Hammers side, likely because of their main objective to secure a promotion. Adama Boiro arrived after West Ham United sold El Hadji Malick Diouf to Brentford for around €47m.
Oliver Scarles has been the first choice left-back for Nuno Espírito Santo this season as he made seven appearances. The manager left him on the bench and started [centre-back] Morato as the left-back in the 2-2 draw against Millwall.
This indicates Nuno doesn’t fully trust Scarles, giving Boiro hope of getting ahead of him for a place in his starting lineup.
Since Boiro’s setback is minor, he should be available when West Ham host QPR after the international break.
