Slovenia manager Boštjan Cesar has addressed Benjamin Šeško current status as he continues to remain on the sidelines at Manchester United.
The striker has managed just six appearances and 206 minutes for the Red Devils this season. He is battling a shin injury picked up last season.
He’s now missed their last five Premier League games, and clashes with Atletico and Como in the Champions League with the problem. In addition, his last appearance in the league came in September in the 1-0 loss to Manchester City.
Reports in England this week have indicated that Manchester United expect the 23-year-old to be out until January with the problem.
International absence
That means he will miss the next international break, when Slovenia play Switzerland and North Macedonia in the Nations League Group Stages.
And speaking at the announcement of the squad today, Cesar was naturally asked about the Manchester United striker’s injury.
He admitted he has no idea when the striker will be back. That’s despite having seen the medical documentation regarding his injury.
“It is even harder for me to say how long Beni will be out. I am not there with him,” he said.
“We have all the documentation. The injury is unpleasant. Naturally, we cannot say much more about the injury itself, nor about why there has been so little information throughout this period.
“We simply hope he recovers as soon as possible and returns to the form we know him for.”
What does the future hold?
With 49 days already out injured and 11 games missed, Šeško’s absence is already a significant one.
Add the 79 days he already missed with the injury last season, though, and it already looks considerably worse. With claims he could now be out until January, that number is only going to get worse.
By the time he returns, things could look very different at Old Trafford. And perhaps his current manager will be left wondering what might have been if he’d had him available. That’s certainly something his international boss will be wondering at this point too.
