Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has now tried to calm some of the noise around his future at Anfield.
The Argentine caused quite a stir earlier this month when talking about his contract situation. He admitted he was “very, very sad” Liverpool hadn’t offered him a new deal.
That understandably got plenty of attention, especially as teammates Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai had been offered new contracts.
Mac Allister has now spoken about it again in an interview with ESPN Argentina. In the same chat you may have already heard, where he discussed his contract situation and the possibility of staying beyond his current deal, he also took the chance to explain those previous comments.
Mac Allister says emotions took over
Asked whether he’d had time to process Liverpool’s stance and think about why the club had made that decision, Mac Allister first made a point of saying nothing has actually been decided yet.
He went back to his previous comments and explained the thinking behind them.
“In that press conference, because they were asking me a bit about my future, it just came from within,” he said.
“It was more about my emotions than judging the club or anything like that. In the end, they’re the ones who handle these things and make the decisions, and that’s absolutely fine with me.”
Mac Allister was clearly disappointed at the time. He now wants to make sure nobody takes that as him having a go at Liverpool or those making the decisions at Anfield.

Liverpool situation is still open
None of that actually settles the contract situation. Mac Allister still has two years left on his current deal and accepts plenty can change in that time.
For now, he seems happy to leave that side of things with Liverpool and get on with his football. He’s also pretty relaxed about either outcome.
“Hopefully it’ll be for more years, but if it’s two, that’s absolutely fine. And I’ll enjoy it, enjoy it with my family. Because I have no doubt it’s one of the best clubs in the world.”
The actual contract question is still there. Seems Mac Allister would clearly be happy to stay beyond his current deal, while accepting Liverpool are the ones who will decide what happens next.
