History

Founded in 1874 by the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel, Aston Villa is a pioneering English club and a founding member of the Football League in 1888. They dominated early English football, winning multiple league titles and FA Cups before 1920. Their peak came in 1982, winning the European Cup, followed by a decline and recent resurgence to elite status.
