Newcastle United are struggling to convince Lille to let Matías Fernández-Pardo leave late in this window. 

That’s according to Sacha Tavolieri, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to cover the latest on the Magpies.

Two days ago, we relayed news of the Premier League side tabling a €40m bid including bonuses and Lille rejecting it.

On Tuesday, Sport Witness covered a report from Belgium explaining that the Tyneside club were to make the final offer yesterday.

The proposal is €60m with bonuses, and it was ‘now or never’ for Matthias Jaissle’s side to sign the forward.

Lille in comfortable position

Matías Fernández-Pardo joined the Ligue 1 side from KAA Gent in August 2024. He has scored 12 goals and contributed 11 assists from 71 matches, operating mainly as a No.9 and a left winger.

The Belgium international has a contract until 2029 and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €35m.

His side are in the process of selling Ayyoub Bouaddi to Manchester City for €100m. This, coupled with the time left on the Belgian’s contract, puts Lille president Olivier Létang in a ‘strong position’ for negotiations.

Sacha Tavolieri says the president is requesting €70m for the player. The Premier League side’s final offer, as per his yesterday’s report, is €10m short.

Newcastle United can’t get the French club to budge. In short, Létang’s firm stance is posing an obstacle for them to sign the player.

The journalist provides no clarity on whether the English club intend to return with a new bid to convince Létang. Should they decide to, Newcastle United have to act fast as there’s less a week left in this window.
