Crystal Palace are feeling the heat, when it comes to Jean-Philippe Mateta’s situation. A possible swap deal could now be offered to them this summer.
The striker’s current deal expires in 2027 and AC Milan tried to take advantage of this during the last window. However, a move didn’t materialise due to medical reasons.
With the player refusing to extend his stay with the south London club the British press have spoken of a legal battle regarding his current contract.
Sport Witness previously covered Juventus remain alert to Mateta’s situation and they could now make an attempt to sign him.
Swap seen as ideal transfer
TuttoSport today report Luciano Spalletti is keen on signing a number nine before the deadline. Joshua Zirkzee is liked by the Serie A giants but their manager wants a different profile, which has led to interest in Mateta.
The newspaper reveal the Frenchman has regularly rejected Crystal Palace’s attempts at a renewal. This has alarmed Juve, with Mateta’s price tag now at only €25m, having dropped from €35m.
The Bianconeri have put up a similar price tag for Jonathan David too. The Canadian is out of Juve’s plans, having fallen out of favour under Spalletti last season.
Agents and intermediaries are now pondering a swap deal between the two clubs.
There are signs David would be keen on a transfer to Crystal Palace He’s already rejected moves to Hull City and Trabzonspor, as he looks for a new destination.
Because of the similar valuation of the players and their desire to leave, a swap is seen as a possible solution.
Our take: Palace should seek permanent transfer
David struggled last season following his move to Turin and subsequently Juve have replaced him with Randal Kolo Muani.
That should be a red flag to Crystal Palace, who need a consistent goal scorer if they are to replace Mateta.
