Eintracht Frankfurt are not missing out on any potential bonuses from Manchester City’s sale of Omar Marmoush to Tottenham Hotspur.
Journalist Christopher Michel reports that there was no such agreement between Manchester City and Frankfurt, despite reports to the contrary.
The journalist provides a clarification regarding rumours around the 27-year-old. He is set to join Tottenham before the end of the transfer window.
€80m package without clause
Frankfurt received a total package worth €80m from Manchester City when they signed Marmoush last season. The German side did not secure any sell-on clause in that deal.
Therefore, reports that Manchester City have negotiated a deal with Tottenham to avoid paying a sell-on clause are wide of the mark.
Michel states that ‘no economic damage is currently arising’ for the Bundesliga club. As far he’s concerned, a line can be drawn under that particular rumour.
For those that don’t know, reports on X had suggested that Manchester City were structuring their deal with Tottenham to avoid paying a sell-on clause to Frankfurt.
Social media dismissed
The suggestion was that Enzo Maresca’s side had lined up a more expensive deal for Savinho, who joined Tottenham this week, and secretly included extra fees for Marmoush in that to avoid paying a sell-on clause to Eintracht Frankfurt.
It was pure, social media-based speculation. Now it seems Christophe Michel is determined to shut it down entirely. Frankfurt were not due to receive anything from Manchester City as there was no clause in the original agreement.
Michel has very much put that suggestion to bed. Omar Marmoush is left to head to Tottenham before the end of the transfer window.
He’ll be hoping to revive his career with Roberto de Zerbi’s side after a disappointing spell at the Etihad since his move last year.
The Egyptian never seemingly settled in Manchester and the hope will be that Tottenham can be more fertile hunting ground.
