Celtic were last night knocked out of Champions League but this won’t stop them from making a move for Gvidas Gineitis.
The Lithuanian has been on the Hoops’ radar in recent weeks. Sport Witness covered reports his future at Torino is uncertain, with their president Urbano Cairo indicating they need to offload players.
Salzburg were also in the hunt for the midfielder, but have yet to make a formal offer.
Celtic remain in the chase and could soon make a key bid for the player.
Torino awaiting possible sale
Torino-related outlet Toro have some information about Gineitis, who started against AC Milan at the weekend. He impressed, also grabbing an assist in his side’s 2-1 defeat.
Despite him being an important player for Ignazio Abate, Torino will not object his sale. They need sales to replenish their accounts and Gineitis came through their youth academy. Anything earned from his sale will go down as a capital gain.
The outlet say Celtic’s chase for him isn’t over. Despite them missing out on Champions League group stages, a new offer can arrive in the ‘next few days’.
At least €10m will be needed to sign the 22-year-old and this sale would enable Torino to sign new players.
Our take: Best time for a move
Two Torino players in Gineitis and Alieu Njie are key candidates to leave. Both of them did well against Milan, with the Swede making an impact off the bench.
With time running out in the window, this is probably the best time for Celtic to move for the Lithuania international. Torino could give the Scottish champions a discount, as everything will go down as a capital gain.
Gineitis would raise the technical flooring of Martin O’Neil’s side too. His ability on the ball is a big strength and playing in Europa at Celtic would be a natural next step.
