Aston Villa have Club Brugge’s Joel Ordóñez and AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori on their list to improve their defence.
Two days ago, we relayed news the Premier League side have agreed on to personal terms with Ordóñez.
On Tuesday, Sport Witness covered a report from Belgium explaining that Aston Villa sent officials yesterday to hold talks with Club Brugge. The trip was for the Villans to finalise an agreement with the Jupiler Pro League side.
Aston Villa stepping up
Het Laatste Nieuws now picks up on that, and reports Unai Emery’s side are yet to find an agreement with Club Brugge.
However, the Europa League winners are ‘making a strong push’ to sign the centre-back.
Aston Villa are working on signing Joel Ordóñez on loan instead of a permanent transfer because of their financial situation.
The Belgian club are open to letting him leave, provided the conditions [financial terms] are right.
Club Brugge want assurance from Aston villa
The Ecuador international is still on the sidelines after picking injury an injury at the World Cup in July. This has partly seen his side, who rejected a €40m offer in January, to lower the price.
Club Brugge want at least €30m plus bonuses and a percentage of a future sale. Aston Villa can offer €30m via a loan with a conditional obligation to buy. The conditions for the mandatory purchase option have become a stumbling block.
HLN states: ‘The Blue and Blacks don’t want to be dependent on performance-based agreements’.
The Belgian club want assurances that Joel Ordóñez will secure a permanent move to Villa Park, after the loan spell. If the Villans agree to these conditions, the operation will go through quickly.
Otherwise, there is a ‘real chance’ for the 22-year-old to continue at Club Brugge beyond this window.
It’s down to the English club whether to accept it or explore another target at this stage of the window.
