Newcastle United were unlucky on Sunday not to start their Premier League campaign with all three points. Liverpool got a late penalty, however, there is a fresh optimism around St James’ Park after a negative few months.
Matthias Jaissle exudes confidence as a manager, and that’s been spreading among the fanbase. After losing a bunch of high profile team members, looking for the bright side has been a refreshing change.
There’s still work ongoing to bring in further additions before the close of the summer window. Now, Newcastle have turned their attention towards the French market. The Magpies once had that as their primary scouting base.
€40m offer for Matias Fernandez-Pardo
French newspaper L’Equipe now share a rather big update regarding Newcastle United transfer business. The Premier League club have made a €40m offer.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo is a 21-year-old forward who plays for OSC Lille. He can play on the left or right wing, or even as a centre forward.
Last season, the youngster played 41 games for Lille, scoring eight goals and adding seven assists. The French club have Fernandez-Pardo secured on a contract until 2029, so are under no pressure.
Lille want more from Newcastle United
A figure of €40m, which would be including bonuses, hasn’t made Lille wobble. They’re not keen on selling the Belgium international and therefore the Premier League club have been rejected.
Despite having the prospect of Premier League football at Lille, Matias Fernandez-Pardo wants a transfer. That makes a move likely.
Multiple Premier League clubs keen
In May, Manchester City were credited with interest in the Lille player. Then it was the turn of Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.
On Monday morning, Sport Witness covered the update of Arsenal being in a battle with RB Leipzig. The Bundesliga club were put at the front of that battle.
However, at that point the highest offer to Lille was around €32-33. Newcastle United’s approach is clearly superior.
