Hammarby Fotbol’s Victor Eriksson says Middlesbrough links ‘never go quite’ as he opens up about his future ambitious.
Fotbollskanalen spoke to the centre-back to get his views on his future plans and about the possibility of joining Middlesbrough.
He joined the Swedish club from Minnesota United in 2024, when Kim Hellberg was in charge.
Last November, the manager left the Allsvenskan side for Boro, and the defender was open to following his manager to the Riverside Stadium.
No contact from Middlesbrough
A few weeks after the Championship side appointed him, Kim Hellberg hinted about bringing Eriksson to the club. At that time, the Swede said the option of reuniting with the coach in England is “of course tempting.”
Fast forward to August and Fotbollskanalen points out there’s been speculation about the manager wanting to sign the 25-year-old. It’s worth noting there hasn’t been anything concrete recently about Middlesbrough.
However, that didn’t stop the outlet from asking Victor Eriksson about the possibility of joining the English club.
“No, not that I know of anyway. It’s everyone else who talks about it all the time. It never goes quiet on that issue. But I haven’t had any conversations there,” he said.
Eriksson has desire to leave
Hammarby’s sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg has recently confirmed interest in Victor Eriksson and ruled out a sale until the Conference League qualifiers. The Swedish club failed to make it to the group stage, after losing to Raków Częstochowa.
Eriksson is unsure about his future and leaves the door open for a move this summer.
“I haven’t heard much. ‘Micke’ [Hjelmberg] has a better idea than I do. I’m referring to my contract. Then there are probably around two weeks left, so we’ll see at the end if there is anything that could come up,” Eriksson explained.
“I don’t have a clue about it right now. I’ll see when it starts to get closer or if something should become relevant.”
The defender hints his club seem to be aware of his ambitions.
“Yes, that’s what I’m set on [staying]. Then you don’t know what those up there [at the club] say or what clubs might be interested. But I think I’ll stay,” he added.
“They know that I have ambitions to play in Europe. Everyone wants to get to the best leagues. Whether it happens now or later, I haven’t made any demands on that. That’s what suits all parties. I would be happy to stay here. But if something [offer] comes up that everyone would be happy with, I could imagine that too.”
