Leeds United can get Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Michael Zetterer for a fee in the low millions, with the German club keen to move him on.

BILD report on the 31-year-old today and the increasing attempts to get him out of Frankfurt before the end of the window.

Frankfurt crisis

The newspaper explains that there is currently ‘goalkeeping chaos’ at Frankfurt.

They want to sign Noah Atubolu this summer, but that would leave them with three goalkeepers. First, they need to make room. Thus, they are trying to move Zetterer and Kauã Santos on.

Reports have linked Leeds United with the former, but they were shot down by his agent this week.

“We are very surprised by reports claiming Michael Zetterer is on the verge of a move,” he told BILD.

“They are simply not true. Michael and his family are very happy in Frankfurt. A transfer is currently out of the question for him.”

Leeds United need to convince

BILD state this was taken as a clear sign that Michael Zetterer does not intend to be forced out of the German club this summer. It’s the same for Santos and his camp.

The problem is that Frankfurt, and manager Adi Hutter, have little use for either. Zetterer is not a candidate as a number one, and the pair aren’t wanted as back ups either.

Indeed, selling Zetterer for a fee in the ‘low-to-mid single-digit millions’ would suit Frankfurt perfectly. They paid €6m for the goalkeeper a year ago. He’s currently rated at around €4m. The opportunity of a cheap, easy deal is there for Leeds United, or any other suitors.

But the two goalkeepers are refusing to be forced out for now. Indeed, they are showing little interest in a transfer full stop. Leeds, perhaps, need to put the charm offensive on if they want to get a deal done, and do Frankfurt a favour in the process.

Journalist Christopher Michel, meanwhile, reports that something is happening with Leeds. He offers a more positive outlook on the matter.

“Still with all due caution, but according to my information, there are more and more indications that something might indeed be happening with Michael Zettere, despite the denial the previous day,  in the direction of Leeds United. #SGE #Eintracht is open to a departure and is working on a solution,” he said.
