Newcastle United are edging closer towards completing the signing of Gençlerbirliği’s Ousmane Diabaté this summer.

Three days ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Turkey of the Premier League side holding talks for the defensive midfielder.

Later that day, we relayed news of the 18-year-old travelling to England to carry out Newcastle United medical, after quick developments.

Journalist Reşat Can Özbudak covered these two reports and now covers a fresh update for Spor Depor, who makes it clear it’s his original information.

The Premier League side have ‘signed’ Ousmane Diabaté from the Turkish club on a permanent transfer.

The Magpies have taken this step after reaching an agreement with Gençlerbirliği to secure the Guinea international’s services.

Newcastle United secure clause

Matthias Jaissle’s side are offering the defensive midfielder a four-year contract, with an option for another year.

His current deal is until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €1m. The Süper Lig side will receive €3.1m in transfer fee plus €400,000 as potential bonuses.

Ousmane Diabaté joined Gençlerbirliği after a spell at Guinean side Académie SOAR in 2025 and the latter retain a 40% sell-on clause. His impending move to St James’ Park will see Académie SOAR also benefit financially.

As a part of the agreement, the player will immediately return to Turkey on a season-long loan deal. If he were to play regularly this season, Gençlerbirliği will collect a bonus from the Magpies.

Newcastle United have also secured a clause to recall him in January. Reşat Can Özbudak hasn’t specified if there are any conditions attached to it.

To sum it up, the Tyneside club have acted quickly to secure a play for the future.

The midfielder has played 10 matches for Gençlerbirliği U19s and eight matches for the first team, of which one was from this season.
