Norberto Bercique Gomes Betuncal, better known as Beto, arrived at Everton in August 2023 and has been part of a transfer saga nearly every window since then.
January was particularly dramatic. With around a week of the winter market left, Beto’s agent flew to Istanbul. Fenerbahçe were interested but wanted the forward on loan.
Everton had no interest in such a deal. The Toffees did, however, propose a swap with Youssef En-Nesyri. That was something of a long shot. En-Nesyri has dodged a transfer to England at multiple times during his career, and ultimately moved to Al-Ittihad.
With Fener not willing to pay the €20m Everton demanded, Beto’s agent left Istanbul. He flew to Italy and offered his client to Juventus, who were equally disinterested in paying €20m and also wanted a loan.

Now it’s Fiorentina who are in the mix to sign Beto, although there’s nothing imminent.
Moise Kean is on the exit ramp, with Como keen, and the Everton player is one of several options. Those options are Emmanuel Emegha and Liam Delap, both of Chelsea, free agent Mauro Icardi, and Beto.
Monday’s print edition of Tuttosport names Beto as an option, but almost in passing. This is not a case of Fiorentina pushing to sign the Everton player or even having him as top target.
So what of Turkey and elsewhere?
The Turkish media haven’t mentioned Beto for the past month. Turkish football is simply unable to keep anything a secret, so it’s not as though there’d be work ongoing unknown.
There’s nothing going on in Spain, France or Portugal for the Everton forward. Nottingham Forest links left shortly after arriving.
Should Everton want a sale before the end of this window then action needs to start immediately.
The 28-year-old has a contract lasting until June 2027, with a club option for a further year.
