Brighton reached a verbal agreement with Young Boys for Jaouen Hadjam, according to claims from France.
The Seagulls have moved into a strong position for the left-back, who had also attracted interest from Hull City.
Foot Mercato just broke the news. They say Brighton and Young Boys are now working to sort out the final administrative details of the transfer.
That suggests the deal is already well advanced, even if there are still a few things to complete before Hadjam can make his move to the Premier League.
Brighton move ahead for Hadjam
Earlier this summer, Hull City were named as one of the clubs keen on the 23-year-old. The Tigers had identified him as an option after winning promotion to the Premier League.
Como had also been credited with interest, while Bundesliga competition was mentioned. Brighton now appear to have jumped ahead of that group.
Foot Mercato journalists Santi Aouna and Chemssdine Belgacem report that the Seagulls and Young Boys have found a verbal agreement.
The two clubs are currently trying to settle the remaining administrative details to complete Hadjam’s departure. No transfer fee is mentioned at this stage.
Premier League move now looks close
Hadjam joined Young Boys from Paris FC in January 2024 and has since become an important player for the Swiss side.
He has made 96 appearances for the club and established himself with Algeria along the way.
The defender is currently with his national team at the World Cup. Algeria sit third in their group and next face Austria, who are second.
Hadjam remains under contract with Young Boys until 2028, so Brighton would have needed to negotiate directly with the Swiss club.
Unless there is a late problem while the administrative details are sorted, the Seagulls now look well placed to bring the Algeria international to the Premier League.
