Cody Gakpo was arguably Liverpool’s best player against Newcastle United at the weekend, so if there was any additional worry for Tottenham Hotspur it would be The Reds deciding to keep him.
Tottenham have invested heavily in their squad this summer. Indeed, once the window closes it’s likely to have been one of the biggest value markets for any club in Premier League history.
Adding Gakpo from Liverpool would be another sign of intent, however, Manchester City are now in the picture.
Manchester City cast a shadow
SoccerNews in the Netherlands have been covering the Cody Gakpo developments closely. On Monday afternoon, a new slant is brought and that’s where Enzo Maresca’s side get a mention.
Tottenham are not giving up for the Liverpool player, with Spurs preparing another bid. The initial offer was £60m, obviously anything new will need to be higher than that.
Manchester City are now watching the situation, although they haven’t made a move for Gakpo yet.
Nudge to Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester City interest, or at least the mention of such, may well be an effort to pressure Tottenham into hurrying up.
Given this update comes from the Netherlands, there’s every chance the player’s camp want Spurs to bid again quickly and not wait until their double purchase from Manchester City is completed.
