Manchester United’s efforts to sign Alejandro Balde have faced a rather big obstacle. The player hasn’t been keen on a transfer, wanting to stay at Barcelona.
Born in the Catalan city, the 22-year-old left-back was initially in Espanyol’s youth set up before defecting to Barca. He’s made over 100 senior appearances for the club, despite his young age.
Hansi Flick left him out of the match-day squad at the weekend as Barcelona faced Elche. The Catalan media have repeatedly hinted this is part of Balde being ushered out.
Alejandro Balde changing his stance
Cadena Ser report the Barcelona player is now having second thoughts about his future. Having been set on staying at the Camp Nou, recent developments have had an impact.
Alejandro Balde is having doubts for the first time. He has a firm proposal on the table from Manchester United and that isn’t the only interest. Although the names of the other clubs are withheld, Balde has several serious offers.
So from a starting point of absolutely going nowhere, the player has doubts about his future. That, inevitably, edges him closer to signing for Manchester United.
Few bits of concern for Manchester United
Hansi Flick isn’t altogether convinced by what he’s been seeing from Alejandro Balde in training. The Barcelona manager has publicly demanded more commitment, competitiveness and intensity from the player.
Should that be a one off thing related to a transfer then it’s not so concerning. If not, then it’s certainly something for Manchester United to consider before going through with a transfer.
