Christopher Nkunku is on his way out of AC Milan and Newcastle United have now stepped forward for his signature.
The attacker joined the Rossoneri from Chelsea last summer. He could never quite become a regular under Max Allegri and fitness wise, the deal proved to be a disappointment.
New manager Ruben Amorim also doesn’t see Nkunku as an important part of his project. He was excluded from the squad against Torino, with Sport Witness having already covered initial contact from Newcastle United for the Frenchman.
There has been some more movement around the deal and the Magpies have work to do.
Magpies offer clear
Last week, there were signs that Newcastle United have a significant chance of signing the attacker. At one point, they were ahead of RB Leipzig in the race for his signature.
Now, things are changing.
Today’s Corriere dello Sport reports some details, appearing sure Newcastle United have offered an initial loan with an obligation to buy.
Leipzig have put forward a loan worth €4m with an option to buy for €28m. The total terms on offer from the German side are more than what the Magpies have put on the table.
The transfer is now reaching ‘crucial hours’ with the Bundesliga club in the lead.

Nkunku’s desire is proving key in this situation.
In the last few seasons – even at Chelsea, the 28-year-old has declined from a physical standpoint. This was evident even at Milan and a move back to the Premier League could prove too demanding for him.
That is why a transfer to Leipzig makes a lot of sense for Nkunku. He thrived in the Bundesliga and the deal can bring him back to prominence.
