Derek McInnes will soon welcome Kim Min-su at Ibrox as Rangers are closing in on signing him this summer.
Four days ago, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain of Rangers’ desire to sign the winger.
He has a €10m release clause in his contract with the Segunda División side, that runs until 2029.
Rangers on verge of signing
Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo picks up on that and covers the latest on Rangers. The 20-year-old is ‘one step away’ from joining Derek McInnes’ side.
Within the report, the newspaper says the South Korean is ‘very close’ to leaving Girona for the Scottish club.
Trabzonspor have also shown interest in Kim Min-su, but Rangers have made the strong push to get ahead and beat the competition.
His €10m release clause gets a mention, and the Ibrox club will activate it to sign the South Korean.
Why Rangers have to pay clause
Girona signed the attacker for their academy in 2022 and promoted him to the first team in 2024.
Kim Min-su has so far made eight appearances, and two are from this season. The La Liga 2 side sent him on loan to FC Andorra last season, who are also in the Segunda División.
He impressed at Andorra, scoring six goals and contributing four assists from 40 matches. To put it in context, the Rangers target had a direct role in just over 16% of Andorra’s goals [62].
Since returning to the Catalan club, Kim impressed during pre-season and also in the first two league matches.
Girona had no plans of letting the player leave in this window. Therefore, Derek McInnes’ side have to trigger the clause to bring him to Ibrox. The forward’s impending sale to Rangers is as a sporting blow for the Spanish club.
The newspaper says: ‘After returning from his loan spell at Andorra, Minsu was one of the standout players in the new project and had generated a lot of excitement among the fans, who were hoping to see him take centre stage this season.’
At the same time, it allows Girona to improve their finances. The transfer is expected to be made official in the coming hours.
