Axel Henriksson has told the Swedish media he’s happy to have his future at Blackburn Rovers.
On Wednesday, it was officially confirmed the midfielder had signed for the Championship club on a four year, with the option for another season.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, the 23-year-old was asked about his move to Ewood Park and his thoughts about leaving Sweden.
Henriksson said it was difficult leaving Gothenburg; due to the relationship he’s built with Göteborgs Atlet- och Idrottssällskap (GAIS) supporters and also the friends he’s left behind.
However, he’s aware it’s important to move on and is happy to be arriving at a club like Blackburn Rovers.
“At the same time, you leave Gothenburg, your friends and your wonderful team with supporters who appreciate you. I liked it so much in Gothenburg, so when it became concrete for real, it became a lot for me. It sometimes felt unnecessary to move, but I landed on the fact that this is what I want and I’m very happy that it was Blackburn,” said the player.
Yesterday, we covered the details of his transfer to Blackburn Rovers, with reports he’s signed for the East Lancashire side for €890k. This transfer fee will be doubled depending on bonuses, likely related to promotion to the Premier League.
GAIS will also receive 20% of any profit on a future sale.
Henriksson is now in contention to make his debut when Blackburn Rovers travel to West Bromwich Albion this weekend.
