Brighton & Hove Albion are edging closer towards signing Deportivo Cali’s Matías Orozco.
Earlier today, Sport Witness covered a report from Colombia explaining that a deal is in place for the 18-year-old to join the Premier League side.
Brighton are paying $4.8m [€4.1m] to Deportivo Cali for 85% of the teenager’s rights. There was an expectation for him to travel to England today to complete his move to The Amex.
Player on his way to join Brighton

Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra covered this report. He now took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share an additional update.
Sierra has shared a picture of the midfielder inside an airplane, travelling to England, to join the Seagulls.
Agency Aldo Group manages Matías Orozco, and his representatives are accompanying him in the trip to the UK.
The journalists states: ‘Matías Orozco (18) is currently travelling to Europe to sign with Brighton…’
He again points out Brighton & Hove Albion have ‘agreed everything’ for the youngster to secure a move to The Amex.
Brighton medical and announcement pending
The Colombia U19 international, after arriving in the UK, will undergo examinations and other transfer formalities.
He will sign the contract with Fabian Hürzeler’s side if there are no issues with the medical tests. The official announcement should then follow.
Pipe Sierra hasn’t mentioned the details of Matías Orozco’s personal terms, or whether he will immediately join the first team.
The young midfielder has a €6m release clause in his Deportivo Cali contract. The South American club reportedly referred to this earlier in this window when Liverpool and Leeds United made approaches.
Orozco’s preferred role is as a defensive midfielder and can also operate in the middle of the pitch. He played 28 matches for Deportivo Cali.
On Tuesday, the English club sold Carlos Baleba to Manchester United, and this leaves the manager with Jack Hinshelwood as the only recognised defensive midfielder in his squad.
