Augsburg defender Kevin Schlotterbeck is undergoing a medical at Southampton this afternoon ahead of sealing his move to the Saints.
Sky Germany report that the 29-year-old is currently undergoing a medical ahead of a potential €4.5m – including bonuses – deal.
The outlet report that negotiations between Southampton and Augsburg have been ongoing for days. The German side have now broken the story ahead of the defender’s potential move to St Mary’s.
Medical underway
Reports in England this week have indicated that Southampton were closing in on Schlotterbeck before deadline day. Sky Germany now confirm that is the case, and a medical is underway.
The 29-year-old has been with the German side since 2024, when he joined in a €2.5m deal from Freiburg.
He had been with Freiburg since 2017, when he initially joined their II team. He’s also enjoyed loan spells at Union Berlin and VL Bochum in the years since.
He has been a regular for Augsburg since moving there two years ago, making 49 appearances in all competitions for them to date.
He also offers plenty of experience, with 10,929 minutes to his name in the Bundesliga across spells at Freiburg, Augsburg, VfL Bochum and FC Union Berlin.
Harwood-Bellis replacement?
Southampton will perhaps be hoping that experience can be used as they seek to get out of the Championship this season.
They may also be targeting Kevin Schlotterbeck as a potential replacement for Taylor Harwood-Bellis.
Reports have linked him with a move away from Southampton over recent weeks. He was first a target for Portuguese clubs, before the Premier League then turned their attention to him.
Aston Villa are now believed to be at the front of the queue as they seek a replacement for Ezri Konsa. If that deal progresses in the final days of the window, it appears Southampton will be prepared with a replacement.
