Liverpool are closing in on signing Brighton & Hove Albion‘s Yankuba Minteh and will soon make a decisive move. 

The Gambia international picked up an injury during the pre-season and is still recovering on the sidelines.

That hasn’t stopped Liverpool from making multiple attempts to sign the Brighton player this summer.

Below is the timeline of events:

  • Last Thursday, the UK press reported Brighton rejecting £50m [€58.4m] bid
  • A day later, Yankuba Minteh’s entourage dismissed this as “old news”
  • Two days ago, Liverpool submitted a second offer and Brighton rejected it
  • Agent Bakary Bojang is working on concluding this operation

On Sunday, we relayed news Brighton have rejected £50m and £60m [€70m] bids and are asking for £70m [€81.7m] to sanction his sale.

Bakary is seeking British agency CAA Stellar’s assistance to help his client secure a move to Anfield. There’s confidence the 22-year-old will leave Brighton for Liverpool late in this window.

Fresh update on Liverpool offer

Journalist Foday Manneh has covered these recent reports for Footy-Africa. He now took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share fresh updates on Liverpool’s ongoing pursuit of Yankuba Minteh.

He reports Andoni Iraola’s side are expected to send a third bid to Brighton & Hove Albion either ‘tonight [late on Sunday] or Monday morning’.

Manneh says: ‘They have discussed and are ready to go with an improved and convincing offer.’ 

It’s unclear whether Liverpool discussed this proposal internally or with Brighton. Minteh, for his part, is keen on a move to Anfield and is waiting to ‘formalise personal terms’ with the Reds.

The Merseyside club’s Monday offer could prove to be decisive to find an agreement with the Seagulls.

If Liverpool’s third bid is slightly over £70m [€81.7m], Brighton are likely to accept it.
