1. FC Köln director Thomas Kessler says Tottenham Hotspur‘s Mikey Moore only wanted to join the Bundesliga side in the summer window.
On August 31st, the German club completed the winger’s signing on loan.
The 19-year-old came up through the ranks of the Premier League side’s youth system. After spending last season on loan at Rangers, Tottenham again sent him on loan.
Köln agreed to a deal with the north London club at the start of August. The move didn’t go through until the end of the window because Roberto De Zerbi delayed giving the green light.
The manager wanted Spurs to sign an attacker first before letting Moore go out on loan.
Efforts to hijack Tottenham man revealed
Thomas Kessler has been speaking to E Levve lang – der Talk zum FC and Express.de have relayed his comments on Mikey Moore.
The official says several German and international clubs ‘tried to snatch the deal at the last-minute’.
“When the public perception is that we, as 1. FC Köln, have a chance at such a player, you can imagine that one or two Bundesliga or international clubs might inquire how finalised the deal really is,” he said.
On Wednesday, Sport Witness covered a report from Germany explaining that Borussia Dortmund considered hijack the Moore deal.
The director has refused to reveal their details and aimed a dig at BVB for their failure to sign Köln star Said El Mala.
“I don’t know Borussia’s squad planning, with the exception of one player, and he’s still with us,” Kessler explained.
Tottenham player key for summer move
On August 3rd, we relayed news that Mikey Moore rejected several unnamed clubs to join Köln.
Thomas Kessler confirms this report and that helped the Bundesliga side sign the England U19 international.
“I have to say: He was clear all along and wanted to come to Köln. Mikey kept his word. The talks went well. Now we’re happy he’s here,” he added.
The Tottenham Hotspur owned player made his debut in their 4-1 defeat to VfB Stuttgart last weekend.
