Despite not being a key part of the project, Federico Chiesa stayed at Liverpool in the summer. There is now a big possibility of him departing in the winter.
In January, Juventus had been keen on signing the winger. Sport Witness covered how the press in Turin was growing rather confident of the Italian returning.
The move didn’t materialise and no clubs stepped forward for his signature in the summer either. This came after Chiesa hadn’t featured in pre-season due to injury, and he remains out of action.
Clubs now enquiring
Calciomercato IT report on the winger’s situation, noting that clubs are now hunting for Chiesa’s possible signature. Bologna, Atalanta, Inter Milan and AS Roma are considering a possible move for him in January.
It is believed the Nerazzurri specifically could be most interested, as Cristian Chivu is seeking a profile that is similar to Chiesa’s skillset.
Liverpool, at their end, are ready to green light his January departure too. They would be willing to accept a loan, which will make things easier for Italian clubs in the middle of the campaign.
This will help the Reds increase Chiesa’s value before they possibly sell him on for a reasonable figure. As a result, the outlet believe the winger’s return to Italy is now ‘increasingly likely’.

Throughout his frustrating time at Liverpool, Chiesa has never actively pushed for his exit. Even though his career has stagnated, he hasn’t taken any action to change that.
So even if Liverpool want to loan him out, it remains to be seen what the 28-year-old thinks of that decision.
A return to Italy could resurrect his career. He could not just play more but also possibly become an important player for several teams. As things stand, that is exactly what he needs.
