Ronald Araújo has enjoyed a good start at Liverpool since joining them on loan from Barcelona in August.
The defender made his Liverpool debut when he came off the bench against Newcastle United. He made another substitute appearance against Nottingham Forest, and both were as a centre-back.
Andoni Iraola started him as a right-back in Liverpool’s league win over Ipswich Town and in the same role against Atlético Madrid earlier this week.
Araújo assisted Dominik Szoboszlai’s equaliser in the Reds’ 2-1 Champions League win over Los Rojiblancos.
On Thursday, Barca sporting director Deco said he loves the 28-year-old, who still has a contract at the Camp Nou. Therefore, he will closely follow the Premier League side and the versatile defender.
Araújo impressing at Liverpool
The Uruguay international’s good start at Anfield didn’t go unnoticed in Spain. Journalist Xavier Bosch, writing in his column for Friday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, shares his take.
His focus is on the Liverpool man and Ferran Torres, who left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent transfer. The two have excelled since leaving the Camp Nou.
Bosch says the two were ‘vilified’ for years at Barcelona, mainly because of the harsh judgment about their skills. This has seen the duo subjected to constant attacks online and in the media. The journalist believes some of them weren’t warranted.
This impacted their performances for the La Liga winners, but that isn’t the case anymore.
He said: ‘Everything is magnified to such an extent that the mental health of both players has suffered. Araújo, at Liverpool, demonstrates a self-assurance that he gradually lost here.’

Liverpool may take action in January
Ronald Araújo’s preferred position is in the heart of the defence, while Andoni Iraola has used him as a right-back in the last two matches.
Xavier Bosch states ‘defensively, he is an impenetrable wall. When he joins the attack, he gallops forward like a horse.’
He states: ‘The reviews are excellent for the Uruguayan. So much so that it won’t be surprising if Liverpool, in January, announced that it wants to pay the €30m-plus that Barca would have to accept to sell the player, who is currently on loan.’
Last month, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain explaining that the Reds agreed a €55m purchase option with Barcelona.
Therefore, a fee over €30m may not be enough for the Premier League side, either in January or next summer.
