Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo is edging closer towards completing a move to Liverpool this summer. 

Late on Friday, an agreement between the two clubs for the loan transfer became clear. The Reds have also found an agreement with the defender.

The Uruguay international has to carry out transfer formalities to complete his move to Liverpool.

Travelling today for Liverpool medical 

The La Liga winners will face Nottingham Forest in a friendly fixture in Italy later today.

Mundo Deportivo state Ronald Araújo is no longer part of Hansi Flick’s travelling squad to Italy.

Instead, he will make a trip to England today, to carry out medical tests with Liverpool and sign his contract.

Details of Liverpool agreement

Andoni Iraola’s side are signing the defender on loan, with a purchase option.

Sources involved in this deal [likely Barcelona] have informed Mundo the buying option is set at €55m. There’s no mention of a loan fee.

‘Araújo’s destination could only be a big club that could afford his wages and also have the capacity to exercise his buyout option.’

This would indicate the Premier League side will cover most if not his entire salary during his temporary spell. There’s belief the Premier League and especially the Anfield would suit his dynamic style of play.

Los Rojiblancos have an agreement with Spurs and Romero but could still miss out on him to Barcelona.

Injury record concerning 

Ronald Araújo has regularly struggled with muscle problems in recent years while also picking up other injuries.

Last season, he was on the sidelines on five different occasions and suffered a calf injury in June.

The Uruguay international also took an indefinite leave from the game following a period of pressure and scrutiny.
