Ukraine assistant manager Taras Stepanenko is hopeful of Chelsea‘s Mykhailo Mudryk recovering his best version at Tottenham Hotspur.
On summer deadline day, Tottenham signed the winger from Chelsea on loan with an option to buy.
The move saw him return to football after a long absence for a doping ban. The 25-year-old received clearance to return to the pitch in July.
Xabi Alonso didn’t consider Mudryk in his plans at Stamford Bridge this season. Therefore, Chelsea sent him on loan to Spurs.
Excitement over Tottenham move
The Ukraine international has reunited with Roberto De Zerbi at the north London club. He worked under the Spurs manager at Shakhtar Donetsk during the 2021/22 season.
Shakhtar Donetsk sporting director Darijo Srna has revealed De Zerbi wanted to make Mykhailo Mudryk his “star player” at his former club.
Last weekend, Mykhailo Mudryk came off the bench to make his Spurs debut in their 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest.
Taras Stepanenko is hopeful his compatriot can help Tottenham Hotspur and Dynamo.Kiev have relayed his comments.
“We’re very happy that Misha has now joined Tottenham. He joined Roberto De Zerbi, who knows him personally. He helped him a lot in his career; I remember that,” he said.
“We all hope Misha gets back into shape, helps Tottenham, achieves results for himself, regains his confidence, returns to his usual level, and moves forward.”
Tottenham man was in contention for NT return
Taras Stepanenko was talking about the Chelsea owned player’s move to Spurs when discussing the possibility of his national team return this month.
“There’s no list yet; it’s not ready yet. Andrea (Maldera, Ukraine manager) will make the decision,” Stepanenko explained.
“Of course, I think Misha is on the expanded list of the national team, but it will be up to Andrea to decide whether to call him.”
“So, you have to understand his shape, how he feels. He and I are always in touch, but he had negotiations, he was looking for a team that would be more comfortable for him. I am very glad that he came to Roberto, because he will be more comfortable working with a man he knows.”
After this interview, Mudryk picked up an injury while training with Tottenham Hotspur and will miss the upcoming international break.
