Borussia Dortmund considered Tottenham Hotspur winger Mikey Moore as a late replacement for Giannis Konstantelias.
Fussball Transfers cover comments from FC Köln Managing Director Thomas Kessler from the “DuMont Talk” event in Cologne-Ehrenfeld.
He insinuated that there had been other Bundesliga suitors for the 19-year-old, without naming names.
“When there is a public perception that we at 1. FC Köln have a chance to sign a player like that, you can imagine that one or two Bundesliga or international clubs might ask just how certain the deal really is,” he said.
Dortmund interest
Fussball Transfers, though, believe it could have been Dortmund. They report that in August, BVB were looking for a replacement for the injured Konstantelias. They eventually signed Ethan Nwaneri from Arsenal.
“I’m not familiar with Borussia’s squad planning – except for one player, and he’s still with us,” Kessler replied when asked if BVB had inquired about the English winger.
“But he was clear about his intentions the whole time and wanted to come to Cologne. Mikey kept his word. The talks went well. We’re happy he’s here now.”
Focus on playing
The focus now is on giving Moore the game time he needs to continue his development. He wants to get the game time that wasn’t on offer at Tottenham this season.
He’s already made an impressive start in his debut, with Fussball Transfers saying he ‘immediately showed signs’ that he could be a game changer for the Cologne side.
Moore was made to wait for the move this summer as Roberto de Zerbi refused to sanction the move until he’d secured signings of his own. That eventually happened when deals for Omar Marmoush and Savinho were finalised late in the window.
Now he’s got some catching up to do, after Köln managed to ward off a potential late bid from other Bundesliga clubs for him.
