When you send a youngster out on loan, you want him at a stable club, enjoying regular minutes and staying well away from any drama.

That’s certainly what Aston Villa would have hoped would be the case for Andres Garcia at Getafe this season.

The 23-year-old needs regular minutes back in Spain to get an once burgeoning career back on track. So far, he’s been getting that.

Garcia has managed 12 appearances in all competitions so far, with 787 minutes under his belt. He’s even started six of eight games in La Liga. So, on that front, everything is positive.

The latest of those minutes came in the 5-2 loss to Lugano in the UEFA Conference League this week. The Aston Villa loanee managed 90 minutes in that game playing in a right-midfield role.

Developing drama at Getafe

That was the positive. The negative, is that he now finds himself smack bang in the middle of developing drama because of the result.

That drama started after the game, when manager Jose Bordalas made his feelings very clear about those above him at Getafe.

“I feel deceived; what they’ve been promising me year after year hasn’t been fulfilled. As a coach, I don’t deserve this,” he said.

“I was forced to bring on the starters because the embarrassment was obvious and could have been even worse.

“With all due respect, Lugano is at the level of Spain’s Segunda División, and they’ve scored five goals against us. From now on, I can’t give rest to the starters, with the obvious risk that they’ll get injured.

“Today it’s been proven that the squad is unbalanced; I’m not capitalising on a bad result, I’ve been warning about this since May. When people ask me to make changes and I don’t, it’s for this reason.

“We’re not equipped for three competitions; we’re not even equipped for one.”

President responds

That prompted a response from president Ángel Torres. For those that don’t know him, he’s never afraid of speaking to the media in Spain.

And he didn’t pass up an opportunity to take a shot at his manager’s comments on this occasion.

“We have one of the best squads we’ve ever had,” he said.

“He signed because he wanted to. In any case, the door is open for him to leave… If we’re really that bad… well, what can you do? This is Getafe.

“What I don’t understand is why he’s still here if he’s so unhappy. To claim that I deceived him. You’d have to be incredibly brazen to say that to me, after 30 years, I’ve never misled him or anyone else.

“What I will say is that he needs to respect the players, just as they respect him. I’m not going to get into a war of words.”

He was then keen to insist there is no war of words. Instead, he challenged the likes of the Aston Villa man to prove their manager wrong in the coming weeks.

“It’s not a drama. He holds a certain view, and now the players are going to show him that he’s wrong end of story. It’s time to get back to work. We just need to win in Bilbao, and that’s that,” he concluded.
