Liverpool have made a strong push to sign David Otorbi, after approaching both his agent and Valencia.
The Reds turned to the Spanish market to sign Víctor Muñoz from Osasuna in the summer window. The Premier League side are returning to Spain to try and sign another winger.
Otorbi is a product of Los Ches’ youth system, and his development has attracted interest from England. Liverpool are the latest club to join the transfer race.
Having made his first team debut in January 2024, he’s played 13 matches so far and eight are from this season. His only goal was the crucial equaliser in the 2-2 draw against Racing Santander earlier this month.
Liverpool officials travel to Spain
On October 13th, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain explaining that Newcastle United scouts followed the 19-year-old live.
Later that day, David Otorbi’s agent Nacho Gallart said his client attracting a lot of interest.
He said: “He’s a lad who has a big market, and he always has. Quite a few clubs have called us in recent weeks. It’s true that many clubs have called us, especially from the Premier League.”
Liverpool are among them and their scouts were in Spain to follow Reds’ Harvey Elliott, who is on loan at Mestalla. Their officials also met Valencia manager Javier Aguirre and sporting director, Braulio Vázquez.
Liverpool take action for signing
Tribuna Deportiva took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report about the Anfield club’s interest in David Otorbi.
In April, the Spaniard signed a contract until 2028 with an option for another three years. Earlier ‘this week’, Andoni Iraola’s side informed Valencia and the youngster’s agent of wanting to activate his €30m release clause.
Javier Aguirre’s side have quickly taken action by triggering his three-year extension. With that, his new release clause will be €60m.
Plaza Deportiva backs up this report and adds the La Liga side triggered this even before he reached the required number of appearances for automatic extension. The attacker’s salary will also increase.
Valencia took action because several English clubs have been working behind the scenes to sign Otorbi for €30m. That won’t happen with the renewal, which the club will soon make official.
