Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Fiorentina’s Dodo but there’s been a struggle to get it over the line.
Sport Witness covered the ups and downs in the saga over the past two weeks. At one point, it felt like both parties were in agreement over a transfer fee. Soon, it became clear that things weren’t finalised and Oliver Glasner’s side had never made the right offer.
Fiorentina were desperate for the deal, with Dodo’s contract at the club running out in 2027. No Italian clubs had tried to sign the right-back either, handing Nottingham Forest a big chance.
Other target being pursued
Tuttomercatoweb note that there are unexpected developments around Dodo’s Fiorentina future. Everything pointed to him joining Nottingham Forest but this is now unlikely to happen.
Talks between the clubs have broken down and there is a big chance the right-back stays in Florence. The player saw a move to the City Ground as the right transfer but it won’t go through.
The outlet report Nottingham Forest are likelier to end up with Daniel Munoz, who is Glasner’s firm favourite. As a result, Dodo can now spend another season in Florence and could even sign a one-year renewal.
This bridge contract will allow Fiorentina the chance to earn a transfer fee from his exit in 2027.
Our take: Munoz is a better option
Dodo has earned significant experience in Florence but he has his flaws defensively. Even in the final third, he hasn’t always been a reliable outlet. While he wouldn’t have cost much, he remains a rather erratic option.
Besides, Munoz is one of the best in his role in the Premier League. He is older than the Brazilian but is a much more complete player than Dodo.
That is why Nottingham Forest are probably doing the right thing, even if the Colombian can cost a bit more.
