Nick Woltemade has not asked to leave Newcastle United or spoken to the club about a potential departure before deadline day.
Sport Witness have learned that reports of the Newcastle striker asking to leave St James Park are incorrect. There have been no discussions about his future at this moment in time.
Nick Woltemade has not asked to leave
A report in Italy on Friday claimed that Woltemade had asked to leave Newcastle United. That followed a separate report from Italy stating that the striker was attracting interest from Serie A.
Sport Witness covered that report, which explained that Nick Woltemade was seen as the ‘big centenary signing’ by Napoli. They had even contacted Newcastle regarding a loan move.
A source close to the German has informed Sport Witness that such reports are wide of the mark. Woltemade has not asked to leave Newcastle United. The Magpies have also not spoken to the striker or his entourage regarding a possible exit.
That tallies with a report from last week, which insisted that Newcastle had rejected Nottingham Forest’s approach for the striker. Oliver Glasner’s side instead went on to spend £50m to sign Liam Delap from Chelsea.
Newcastle United exit makes little sense
An exit at this point would be strange for Newcastle United and Woltemade, despite his mixed first season in the North East.
Reports in Germany have made it clear that he is enjoying life under new manager Mathias Jaissle, who has taken a different approach to the 24-year-old than his predecessor Eddie Howe.
Indeed, the new Newcastle manager has even been using his contacts in Germany through pre-season to learn how to get the best out of the striker.
It would make little sense, then, to reach this point in the window and start considering a departure. Particularly a loan deal that would not secure them any return on their large investment.
