Nick Woltemade has been linked with a Newcastle United exit this summer and is attracting interest from Italy.
The attacker struggled to make mark in his first campaign with the Magpies. He played 33 times in the Premier League and scored eight times, often finding himself on the fringes of the starting XI under Eddie Howe.
Earlier this week, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany on Nottingham Forest’s interest in the striker. This approach from the Midlands club was rejected, as Newcastle United want to keep the striker.
Now, Napoli have stepped forward for the former Stuttgart man.
Initial contact made
Today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport reports Woltemade is seen as a ‘big centenary signing’ by Napoli. They have made initial contact with Newcastle United over a loan.
The newspaper believe the German would be interested in a transfer but his wages are proving to be an issue. He earns €4.5m per season and to afford that, Napoli would want the Magpies to pay a percentage of that salary.
Even beyond that, Max Allegri’s side are awaiting an outgoing, with Noa Lang a major candidate to leave. Once the Dutchman heads out of the door, a move for Woltemade could become a realistic idea.
Corriere dello Sport also offer details, clarifying Newcastle United have been asked about a loan by Napoli.
They go on to note that Matthias Jaissle’s side see Bilal El-Khannouss as a replacement and they could make a deal easy, if the Moroccan joins.
Napoli are playing the waiting game but have established the foundation of a deal already.
