Southampton are in the hunt for Bologna’s Martin Vitik but a deal is proving complicated.
The centre-back arrived at the Rossoblu from Sparta Prague last summer for a figure of €11m. Since then, he has become a reliable squad player, featuring 19 times in Serie A and playing ten times in the Europa League during the 2025/26 campaign.
The Czech international was also left on the bench against Lazio, as Bologna picked up a frustrating 1-0 defeat.
Southampton have now emerged as a possible destination for the defender.
Saints need big effort

Adding their own information, the newspaper clarify that this hasn’t found confirmation at the Rossoblu. Besides, if Vitik is to leave this summer, it will take something special as he has been at the club for only a single season.
As things stand, Bologna don’t want to lose the player late in the transfer window.
They spent a significant amount last summer and trust him enough to take the next step this season. So if Southampton really want to sign the 23-year-old, they will have hand Bologna a major capital gain.
Our take: Big season for Vitik
Bologna have parted ways with Jhon Lucumi and one centre-back spot is up for grabs. Rahim Alhassane has joined from Real Oviedo but he is yet to get to grips with the game in Serie A.
That is why Vitik will have a huge season and has every chance of playing more. He took the 2025/26 campaign as a means to settle himself.
Thus, moving to Southampton makes little sense, as there is every chance Bologna qualify for Europe in the ongoing campaign.
