Brighton have received a loan offer from Vasco da Gama for Igor Julio, but the Seagulls appear in no hurry to make a decision.
The Brazilian side had already been credited with interest in the 28-year-old earlier this month. They have now taken the next step and put a proposal on the table.
According to Radar da Bola, Brighton want to wait until the end of the transfer window before deciding Igor Julio’s future. Talks with Vasco remain ongoing in the meantime.
The information makes plenty of sense from the Brazilian side. Vasco are quite desperate to strengthen at centre-back before the window closes and have been looking at the market for solutions.
Brighton want to wait
Brighton’s response is quite interesting given how their position on Igor Julio has changed over the summer.
For months, the Seagulls wanted a permanent sale and showed little interest in another loan. They struggled to find a buyer willing to meet their demands, having previously valued the defender at around €6m (£5.2m).
That eventually led to a change of approach. Reports from Brazil earlier this month said Brighton were prepared to consider a temporary departure.
Vasco have now acted on that opening. However, the Premier League club don’t appear ready to immediately green-light the Brazilian proposal. Radar da Bola say they intend to wait until the end of the window before making a call.
That could give Brighton more time to see what other opportunities develop for Igor Julio.
There has already been interest elsewhere, as we have been following closely. A German club recently submitted a loan proposal, with Schalke a reasonable possibility given their earlier talks for the player, although that was never confirmed.
But now there is an offer on the table. Oddly, they seem happy to wait before choosing Igor Julio’s next destination.
