Marcel Sabitzer’s chances of joining Manchester United on a permanent basis in the summer may have been dealt a significant blow with an ‘evening to forget’ for the midfielder in the loss to Sevilla.

That’s according to Peter Linden, who says the midfielder was one of those who failed to show their worth to Erik ten Hag in the defeat in Spain.

Manchester United were dumped out of the Europa League by Sevilla last night, with the Spanish side running away as 3-0 winners and 5-2 winners overall after an error strewn performance from the Reds.

Sabitzer started the game in a number ten role ahead of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, filling the gap left by Bruno Fernandes’ absence.

He had an ‘evening to forget’ as far as Linden is concerned, though, with the journalist stating his performances and the mistakes from his teammates that led to Sevilla’s goals likely to have ‘hurt’ more than his nasty clash with the advertising hoardings.

The Austrian ultimately couldn’t make an impact on the game and was replaced in 68th minute by Fred, indicating that Ten Hag was less than impress by what he’d seen also.

And that could provide a death knell to his chances of securing a permanent move to Manchester United from Bayern Munich this summer.

Linden already reported at the beginning of this month that Ten Hag had shown ‘no sign’ he wanted Sabitzer on a permanent basis and that’s unlikely to have changed after his anonymous display last night.
