Crystal Palace favourite Yannick Bolasie has revealed how he recent fell foul of a referee in Brazil, who was less than impressed by his showboating antics.
The winger has been speaking to CNN in the country, where he described a funny interaction with the man in the middle during a recent game.
The 34-year-old is currently turning out for Cricíuma Esporte Clube after joining them on a free transfer in March following his release by Swansea City.
It’s the latest step in a varied career for the forward, which has seen him go from playing at Rushden and Diamonds to Floriana, Plymouth, Barnet, Bristol City, Crystal Palace, Everton, Aston Villa, Anderlecht, Sporting Club de Portugal, Middlesbrough, Caykur Rizespor, Swansea and now Cricíuma.
It is undoubtedly his time at Crystal Palace he enjoyed the most, making 144 appearances and managing 13 goals and 25 assists.
He was a firm fan favourite at Selhurst Park because of those numbers but primarily because of his love for showboating, with barely a week going by in which he hadn’t dazzled with a new piece of skill or trickery for the Eagles.
That got lost in later years but he’s back to his old self in Brazil, and that’s something that, surprisingly given it’s the country known for Samba flair, hasn’t gone down well.
“The referee said not to do that (the nonsense) anymore,” he said.
“He was the one who asked me not to do it. I’ve never seen this in my life. But you know, then you take it as advice, because I’m in Brazil, a different state. After the game, he told me that he played FIFA with me. So, that was funny.”
