During the January transfer window, as well as after it, it was claimed that Everton and Nottingham Forest were interested in Sheraldo Becker.

The Union Berlin star was linked with a move away, but the Bundesliga side held on, wanting him to stay for the rest of the season.

It has always been said his contract expires in 2025, giving Union time to deal with his future, but Bild in Germany claim otherwise on Friday.

They state the Everton and Nottingham Forest target’s deal with the German club should actually ‘only run until 2024’.

Therefore, he would be a free agent at the end of next season leaving the next transfer window as the last real period for Union Berlin to sell him for a nice fee.

That plays into the hands of the likes of Everton and Nottingham Forest, who therefore can anticipate a cheaper deal than first expected if they were to come back for him in the summer.

What does work against the two sides is that Union Berlin are currently fighting for a Champions League spot, and it’s clear he would be unlikely to want to swap that for a bottom half battle in the Premier League, even if his contract could be better there.

It’s even recalled in this article that Nottingham Forest ‘wanted’ Becker, who has scored nine goals and picked up eight assists in 42 games.
