Newcastle United defender Fabian Schär has contradicted manager Eddie Howe and insisted he will be fit again before the end of the season.
The centre-back has been speaking to Blick in his home country after Howe suggested he was set to miss the rest of the season through injury.
The newspaper explains that Switzerland have been left with injury concerns ahead of Euro 2024 after Schar picked up a thigh issue at Newcastle.
Eddie Howe has since suggested the Swiss defender won’t appear again this season.
“Fabian will be out for a while with a minor hamstring problem. He won’t be available tomorrow and I doubt we’ll see him again this season,” he said at his Friday press conference.
He spoke of a minor hamstring injury according to Blick, who say it is unclear how he sustained the injury and therefore unclear how long he will be on the sidelines.
Switzerland had been left sweating, then, as the Newcastle defender is very much a key player for them and a major part of their plans for Euro 2024.
Schar, though, has instead contradicted his manager and insisted that ‘he will be fit in time’ for the summer tournament in Germany.
“In my opinion it’s not that bad and I’m fully expecting to play for Newcastle this season. Accordingly, I have no worries at all when it comes to the European Championships,” he insisted.
