Leeds United flop Weston McKennie has inadvertently found himself being linked to Manchester United this week, thanks to a pesky ‘hacker’.

That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who explain what was behind a ‘surprise photo’ of him in a Manchester United shirt.

They explain that the recent photo of the Juventus man, who spent the second half of last season in an unsuccessful loan spell at Leeds United, in a Manchester United shirt had made ‘fans go wild’.

That had been accompanied by a title of “I’m here”, indicating that the American was set for a move to Old Trafford in the near future.

Everything was not as it seemed, though, as Juventus later confirmed that the midfielder had been targeted by a ‘hacker’, who had gained access to his social media profiles and run amok.

This was quickly rectified by the player and the club, who changed things back with pictures of the midfielder playing for Juventus.

For a moment, though, it appeared the former Leeds loanee was on his way to Manchester United and that caused the inevitable stir. In reality, it was a nuisance hacker causing problems and leading to unnecessary excitement.
