Liverpool may want to make their move for Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners now, as Juventus can’t afford to step things up at present.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the time may be ripe for Liverpool to make their move and ensure there’s no comeback for the competition.
The newspaper explains that new week the midfielder’s agent, Bart Baving from the Wasserman agency, will be in Italy to closely follow the semi-final between Atalanta and Marseille.
He’s making that trip just to watch the player, but it is likely he will be meeting clubs to discuss his client, who seems set for a move this summer.
He’s already laid the foundations for a move away from Atalanta, striking an agreement with them last year and extracting a ‘sort of promise’ from the club that the midfielder can leave in the event of a fair bid being made.
Juventus and Liverpool are the current leaders for his signature, but the former cant properly move until they’ve qualified for the Champions League.
They could immediately move once that’s done so Liverpool have a small window in which they could take the lead on the matter.
They already held first contacts in February, and it’s believed that if they get serious about a deal, that would mean trouble for Juventus.
The belief seems to be that Liverpool could easily afford the €40-45m Atalanta, even if reports had the price more at €60m.
Koopmeiners, for his part, would prefer to stay in Italy but Liverpool could force the matter and take advantage of the small window they’ve been presented with thanks to Juve’s inability to move now.
