Sunderland and Fulham are in for a late battle to sign AS Roma’s Matías Soulé.
That’s according to Sunday’s edition of Corriere della Sera. They cover Sunderland and Fulham’s interest when reporting the latest on the Serie A side’s potential movements before Tuesday’s deadline.
Sunderland and Fulham already made contact
Last month, we relayed news the 23-year-old’s agent had a meeting with the Premier League duo.
The Black Cats or the London club haven’t made firm advances to close this operation yet.
On August 21st, Sport Witness covered a report from Italy explaining that Régis Le Bris’ side made fresh contact to sign Matías Soulé. The Giallorossi are valuing him between €35-40m.
Sunderland sporting director Florent Ghisolfi knows the winger well, having signed him for AS Roma from Juventus in July 2024. He seems to lead his side’s pursuit and can be key for the potential late signing.
Sunderland and Fulham battling
Corriere della Sera picks up on that, and their report mainly focuses on AS Roma’s firm efforts to sign Zenit Saint Petersburg’s Luiz Henrique.
The Brazilian mainly operates in the right wing [and can also play as a left winger], a role currently occupied by Paulo Dybala and Matías Soulé.
Therefore, one has to monitor the latter, who is on both Sunderland and Fulham’s agenda.
In fact, the Premier League duo are showing ‘concrete interest’ in the Argentine. Corriere adds the two clubs are willing to sign him on loan with an obligation to buy.
The overall cost of the deal, likely including loan fee and the purchase obligation, is around €35m.
There’s no indication of the South American’s willingness to leave, and if so, whether he prefers the Black Cats or Álvaro Arbeloa’s side.
Last season, Soulé scored seven goals and contributed eight assists from 42 matches.
